Confetti In Bloom, 2026
By Kristen Coates
60”H x 48”W
Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas
Signed and titled on reverse
A painting about rhythm, color, and permission to follow the work somewhere unexpected. I never exactly know where my paintings will end up, but I know when I get there and this one was so special to see arrive on canvas, almost like a dream come to reality.
This painting marks a distinct shift within my Confetti series and in my painting practice as a whole. While the familiar language of color and repetition remains, the composition opens, allowing space for movement, interruption, and a more expressive, almost landscape-like presence to emerge.
Fields of color dissolve and reform across the canvas, with moments of intensity giving way to softer, atmospheric passages. There is a looseness here that feels new, less contained, more intuitive, as if the structure of the earlier works has begun to expand and breathe.
Painted during a moment of exploration in the studio, this piece stands apart from the others in the series. It captures a direction I am excited to continue pursuing, while also feeling complete and singular in its own right.
