In The Garden Abstract Painting on Paper VII
By Kristen Coates
18”H x 24”W Framed
Acrylic on paper
These began as an exploration of light not form. The title came later. In The Garden felt right because of the way the color breathes and also because they were painted in my garden at Navy House. Yellow like late morning sun. Blue like shadow against a wall. Coral moving in and out of neutrality.
Painted on paper, the surface absorbs differently than canvas, softer, more immediate. The gestures remain visible. Nothing overworked.
This series is strong alone, but especially compelling in dialogue, a pair, a sequence, a wall. Currently unframed, but float mounted and simple white or natural wood frames would be wonderful.
