Cake In The Garden II

Cake In The Garden II continues the conversation of its companion painting, exploring the same delicate palette with a little more contrast and movement.

Rich violet moves beneath sweeping passages of powder blue grey, lavender, and soft cream, creating a composition that feels layered, spontaneous, and wonderfully tactile. The brushstrokes overlap and interrupt one another, allowing glimpses of earlier marks to remain visible.

I love the balance between the sweetness of the colors and the confidence of the gestures. There is something reminiscent of frosting spread across a cake, flowers gathered loosely from the garden, or the beautiful disorder left behind after an afternoon spent entertaining.

While the palette is soft, the painting has a strong sense of presence. The deeper violet anchors the composition, allowing the lighter gestures to move freely across the surface.

It is a small but expressive work, equally suited to a shelf, an intimate wall arrangement, or displayed alongside Cake In The Garden I.
