On Holiday - Ischia Artist Residency
Painted during my artist residency on the island of Ischia, Two Fish, Ischia is a playful little study of life by the Mediterranean Sea.
Two fish drift through a wash of watery blues and seafoam greens, surrounded by loose, almost decorative gestures that suggest currents, bubbles, and the wonderful movement of the water. The composition is intentionally simple, allowing the colors and characters to carry the story.
There is something about spending time on an island that changes the way I paint. The days become less structured, the colors more instinctive, and the smallest observations begin to feel worthy of remembering.
This painting isn't trying to capture the sea exactly as it appears, but rather the feeling of being there, sun-warmed afternoons, swimming in impossibly clear water, and the little details that stay with you long after you've returned home. A lovely reminder that sometimes the most memorable things we bring home from a place are the simplest.
