A singular object by legendary Italian architect and designer Gaetano Pesce, whose work challenged the boundaries between art, architecture, and design through experimentation with color, material, and form.
Each vase is made by hand using Pesce's characteristically unconventional materials and processes. Irregularities, variations in surface, asymmetry, and visible evidence of the making process are intentional, no two pieces are exactly alike. What might traditionally be considered imperfection becomes part of the object's identity.
I love these because they occupy that wonderful space between sculpture and something you can actually live with. Fill one with flowers or branches, place it among books and artwork, or simply let it exist on its own. It changes completely with its surroundings and is just as compelling empty as it is in use.
Selected individually for Italo Disco, each piece brings together so much of what I love about Italian design: experimentation, humor, extraordinary color, and the belief that the objects we live with don't have to behave themselves.
