A little ritual for slowing down. Matcha On Holiday began with a simple idea: to take something I love in my own daily life and make a beautiful ritual of it.
I’ve always believed that the ordinary parts of our days deserve as much attention as the extraordinary ones, the cup we reach for in the morning, the objects we leave on the counter, the few quiet minutes before the day begins. Setting intention over a cuppa. With enough care, even making matcha can become a tiny holiday.
Each Matcha On Holiday box begins with a wooden keepsake box, individually painted by hand in my studio. Inside is a handmade ceramic tea bowl created especially for the project by Duxbury ceramicist Becky Firth, matcha from our neighborhood friends at Empire Tea & Coffee, a traditional bamboo whisk, and a tiny jar of sugar stars, because ritual should still leave room for delight.
Everything is nestled together by hand and finished with a satin scarf in a generous bow, turning the box itself into part of the gift.
Nothing about making thirty of these is particularly efficient. That is exactly the point, all of it is here for the sake of it.

Made in Newport
Matcha On Holiday grew out of a collaboration with Empire Tea & Coffee and my love of the rituals, makers, and small businesses that make Newport feel like home.
Each box passes through many hands before it reaches yours. Only 30 will be made.
Keep it on the counter. Make matcha on a gray Sunday morning. Take ten minutes when you weren’t planning to. Use the bowl for years. Fill the painted box with letters, photographs, ribbons, or whatever becomes precious next.
Give it to someone you love. Or, perhaps even better, give it to yourself.
